Te Jankuru Series is an R&D IP we’ve developed in-house as a low risk, low pressure testing project. This series enables our staff to explore ideas and technical challenges in a fun and improvisational way and serves to refine the teams knowledge and organisational process’ that can be applied client projects.
This particular episode was based on the premise that Whare was an underground warlord seeking the assassination services of Tāmiti, the mysterious masked assassin. These two were placed in a grungy cyber punk suite and were tasked with developing the story from there through improvisation. This was useful as it gave us a chance to shoot on the fly and troubleshoot as we went.
For this particular example we used a combination of the LED walls which is a 2.8mm ROE black pearl, projected a generic cyberpunk level developed, designed in Unreal Engine 4, we had a set of neon lights as well as a spot light and it was shot with an anamorphic lens. We were able to test Tracklabs Prime Series Opti-track (available here) kindly loaned to us by the University of Canterbury.
This was a perfect chance to setup and test the tracking system ahead of some client projects that were coming up. Tracklab is dedicated to providing motion capture technology and professional services. They’ve grown from a VR background, and now have well over 15 years of experience in tracking. No matter what your mocap needs they' have the experience and know how to help you with your next purchase, training, services and support.
We textured the environment using a smoke machine where we felt appropriate to add that layer of mystique to the composition and again we feel it really complimented the design.
If you have some ideas you’re keen to test or to talk through please feel free to contact us. We’d be more then happy to work with you to get your desired outcomes.
Aside from that we’ll keep you posted with any new developments that we might have.
